"European Values in National Heritage" International Conference - Call for Papers

On the 17th of May, at the initiative of the European Commission and the European Parliament, 2018 was declared The European Year of Cultural Heritage. Through the aforementioned act, the two institutions intended to create the necessary context for cultural events that would help citizens in the member countries to acknowledge and study their common European cultural heritage.

Under the auspices of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, Department of Ethnology of the “A. Philippide” Institute of Romanian Philology, within the Romanian Academy – Iasi Branch, Romania, and the “Moldova” National Complex of Museums in Iasi, Romania, organize the International Conference ”European Values in National Heritage”, that will take place at the Palace of Culture in Iasi, Romania, on the 7th and 8th of June, 2018. The event will include keynote papers and papers presented in the following parallel sessions: History and Archeology and Cultural Anthropology.

The conference would hopefully be a context of debating important topics about the state-of-art of the participants’ national heritage situated both within and outside of the European Union. The participants are expected to explain if and how these national heritages contribute to a collective European heritage aside from the limited enumeration of traits and elements representative for one or another national culture either from the mainstream or the margins of Europe. The debate would also mean calling into question well-known conventional terms such as: “united in diversity”, “the European identity”, “the European civilization”,  ”the common European cultural heritage”.

We invite you to send the title and a 150-word abstract of your contribution, and data about your academic credentials and current position until no later than May, 27, 2018 at arhifolc@gmail.com.
